Better Your Sight and Eye Color with Colored Toric Contacts

Correcting for astigmatism doesn't have to be dull if you get colored toric contacts. Different types of lenses let you add to what nature gave you or change it completely. And with the comfort of soft contact lenses, changing colored toric contacts is easy.

Colored toric contacts are like uncolored toric lenses in that a precise fit is required for best visual correction. Astigmatism is what toric lenses correct and it's most often caused by a misshapen cornea. A normal cornea has the spherical shape of a round balloon. But an astigmatic cornea is curved more sharply in one direction than the other. The shape is like the result of squeezing opposite sides of the round balloon. And this distorted cornea cause a distortion in vision.

Because every cornea with astigmatism is shaped differently, toric lenses require high precision in their making and fitting. A toric lens also needs to remain in the same position when worn, so it's a good idea to ask your eyecare provider for recommendations of the lenses with the best stability.

When selecting colored toric contacts, you need to decide if you want to improve upon your natural eye color or change it. Enhancement color lenses are made to add color to your natural eye color. The majority of enhancement lenses are made for only light eyes because the slight color effects wouldn't be noticeable with dark eyes.

If you want to change your eye color then you need to get opaque colored toric contacts. These lenses have one to several layers of non-transparent tinting. Because the tint isn't transparent, it is in a band around the center of the lens which is clear. The most natural looking lenses are of the multi-layer type, which reproduces the patterns in the iris and gives the appearance of depth.

In addition to the colored toric contacts that get replaced every year, like traditional lenses, you can also get frequent replacement types. Frequent replacement lenses give you fresh lenses more often and if they're disposable, you never have to clean them.
