Correct Astigmatism with Preference Toric Contact Lenses

Preference toric contact lenses combine quality optical performance with the convenience of frequent replacement. Lenses that perform well but aren't comfortable or are comfortable but don't reliably improve your sight, aren't worth having. But Preference toric contact lenses are designed to give you consistently clear vision with the comfort of soft contacts.

Preference toric contact lenses are made to correct for astigmatism. The effects of astigmatism range from barely noticeable to severe enough to produce headaches if left uncorrected. Astigmatism is due to a slightly malformed cornea or less frequently, the lens. A normal cornea has an evenly curved surface, like that of a ball. But an astigmatic cornea is curved more in one direction, like the shape resulting from squeezing opposite sides of a balloon.

To properly correct for astigmatism, Preference toric contact lenses need to adjust for the amount of cornea curvature and its direction. And not only must the lens be made to the exact specifications, it must be designed to remain in one position to provide consistent correction.

One of the problems that occurs with any contact lens is a buildup on the lens from substances in your tears or your environment. This is why keeping your contacts clean and replacing them as scheduled is important. But because Preference toric contact lenses are scheduled for replacement within three months, there is less time for buildups to form. And to reduce the amount of enzyming required, the surface of Preference toric contact lenses resists deposits for safer, more comfortable contacts.

The amount of astigmatism can very for each person's eye and some people only need correction for one eye. For these situations, the eye without astigmatism can use a regular("spherical") Preference lens which doesn't correct for astigmatism, but otherwise has the same features as Preference toric contact lenses.
