Just because you have astigmatism doesn't mean you can't improve your eye color, since there are toric colored contacts. Color contact lenses have become popular for either adding to your natural eye color or changing it. And with toric colored contacts you can benefit from corrected vision and a new appearance.

Toric colored contacts, like uncolored toric lenses, must be precisely made to correct for astigmatism. A normal cornea is curved evenly like the surface of a round balloon. But a cornea with astigmatism is like a balloon that's been squeezed. It curves more sharply in one direction. So each toric lens must be custom made to fit your particular cornea curvature.

The type of color lens you get depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to add to your natural eye color, there are enhancement lenses. Most of these lenses are made for light color eyes since the tinting is light and semi-transparent. The other type of color contact lens is an opaque. This lens has non-transparent tinting and is designed to change your eye color. Toric colored contacts are available for either type.

CIBA Vision's DuraSoft and FreshLook lenses are examples of what's available in toric colored contacts. The DuraSoft lenses come as either enhancement tints or opaque tints. The tinting can also be either a single color or a blend of three shades. And these soft lenses are scheduled for replacement either every three months or once a year. Or if more frequent replacement is desired, the FreshLook lenses are replaced after two weeks of daily wear or one week of continuous wear.
